South Louisiana AHEC Scholars

The AHEC Scholars Program is a national program designed to enhance the education and training of current health profession students committed to serving Louisiana’s rural and underserved populations.  The goal of the AHEC Scholars Program is to prepare a diverse, culturally competent primary care workforce, improve workforce distribution throughout Louisiana, particularly among rural and underserved populations, and develop a workforce prepared to deliver high quality care in a transforming health care delivery system. 

AHEC Scholars will be selected for a two-year commitment from among a variety of health professions programs, including medicine, dentistry, nursing, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, public health, social work, and more. 

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and a new cohort of Scholars will be selected every fall semester.  Students selected into the South LA AHEC Scholars program will receive a yearly stipend of $1,000 for a two-year commitment and achieve national AHEC Scholars recognition enhancing future employment opportunities.
