Navigators for a Healthy Louisiana
Navigators for a Healthy Louisiana (NHL) is a consortium made up of Southwest Louisiana AHEC and Central Louisiana AHEC Louisiana. SWLAHEC receives funding from the US Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services on behalf of this consortium to support Navigators in Federally-facilitated Exchanges. This funding allows SWLAHEC’s to continue to serve as Louisiana’s statewide Navigator entity. Navigators for a Healthy Louisiana train and dispatch a cadre of 5 professional and licensed personnel who systematically and efficiently educate citizens and documented residents regarding the Federally-facilitated Insurance Marketplace, and assist consumers in enrolling in qualified health plan, managed-care plans through Louisiana’s expanded Medicaid program, or refer them to other appropriate agencies or programs.
All AHEC Navigators maintain expertise in eligibility, enrollment, and program specifications and conduct public education activities to raise awareness about the Marketplace. Our Navigators provide information and services in a fair, accurate, and impartial manner.
This includes providing information to assist consumers with submitting the eligibility application, clarifying the distinctions among health coverage options and QHPs, understanding advanced premium tax credits, and helping consumers make informed decisions during the health coverage selection process. In addition, AHEC Navigators facilitate the consumer’s selection of a Qualified Health Plan or managed care plans through Louisiana’s expanded Medicaid program.
