Community Health Service Corps
The Collegiate Health Service Corps (CHSC) is a training program and service learning experience for undergraduate students. Through CHSC, students are exposed to health careers through service learning experiences that promote culturally competent preventative health and disease prevention education to medically underserved communities.
The CHSC strives to improve access to health care by increasing the likelihood that participants pursue careers in primary health care, work with medically underserved populations and apply to the National Health Service Corps (NHSC). Students are provided with trainings and meaningful educational experiences with medically underserved populations early in their educational careers increasing the likelihood that they will continue to work with underserved communities as professionals. At the same time, medically underserved populations receive high quality preventative health and disease prevention education and basic health screenings that help foster trusting relationships between the medically underserved and health care providers.
